About The Hydration Ledger
A plain-language library on hydration science, built around one question: what can actually be measured?
Who we are
The Hydration Ledger is written by Mathis Fürst Haugen, a former USF men's soccer captain who started looking into hydration after an injury that his athletic trainers partly put down to months of running low on fluid. More about him at mathishaugen.com.
Conflict of interest
Mathis is a co-founder of syp, a startup building a bottle sleeve that measures how much someone drinks. This site is published by the syp team. We think you should know that before you read anything here.
How we handle it:
- Articles are about the science, not about products. Most never mention syp.
- Where a product category that includes syp is relevant, we say so on the page, next to the mention.
- We don't publish product rankings or reviews of competitors.
- We cite primary research wherever we can and link every source so you can check it.
Editorial standards
- Peer-reviewed studies and position statements first; news coverage only for context.
- We report what a study found, including where it's limited, not just the headline.
- Nothing here is medical advice. If you have a condition affecting fluid balance, talk to your doctor.
Corrections
